The Digital Repository consists of digital collections, research projects and events. The digital collections include Photographic, Squeeze, Botanical Reference, Animal Bone Reference, Pottery Reference, and Drawings collections, as well as Archaeological Documents and Official Documents. In addition to these material types, individual archive collections were created based on the project area (e.g. Tille Höyük Archive) or collector name (e.g. Alan Hall Archive). 

  • When referencing an item from our collections, please cite as ©British Institute at Ankara-Local Identifier. The correct citing format is indicated in the metadata section for each item, under 'Use and Reproduction'. Please add handle link for persistent URL: e.g. ©British Institute at Ankara-PH12462 (https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12842/6e0c3691-763a-496f-8469-2eac14ec1dfa).

  • Where coordinate information is available in a collection, please note that the Digital Repository uses the original information, converted from degree to decimal, for the database coordinate entries.
  • For our Ancient Sites list, location information was gathered mainly from the TAY Project (Türkiye Arkeolojik Yerleşmeleri, in English: The Archaeological Settlements of Türkiye) inventory, andGetty TGN (Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names).
  • Requests to consult the BIAA’s physical collections in person must be sent to the Resource Manager at least two weeks in advance. You can read about how to access the physical collections and corresponding guidelines here. After your visit, you can request for specific items from the archives and collections to be digitised. Requests to digitise specific items must be sent to the Resource Manager.
